Age is nothing but a number!

In Uncategorized on March 26, 2012 at 3:46 pm

How old would you feel, if you didn’t know your real age? Whatever that number is, what’s stopping you from feeling that way, now?

I’ve pondered over this question for about a week. What triggered me to think along these lines, is a personal situation in the family, where a very close dear one is struggling to find the meaning of life, and strength to fight, what’s potentially hanging over the horizon, a life-threatening diagnosis.

In short twelve weeks, I’ve seen the cheery, effervescent qualities being replaced by weariness, and doubt along with her declining health. As she prepares herself for harder times ahead, she’s struggling to understand, “why me?”

It’s a question with no obvious answer. The truth is, it is never about “Why Me?” The situation we happen to be in, influences in conjuring an answer, we eventually convince ourselves that somehow we deserved to be in that situation.

The more important, but often the neglected question is “What Now?” The sooner one comes to terms with the situation, the sooner they can start looking for solutions. Often, the answers to what now are shaped by our attitude towards life. Some people live their age, some live to age, some age to live, some others are ageless, while others don’t even know the difference.

I read somewhere that “Life by itself is a terminal disease.” We all will eventually fade away, in our own time. People remember us for what we do from the moment we’re born to the moment we die. It is never about the origin or the end, but the journey that adds meaning to life.

I can’t say, that I have done enough in my life, to make people remember me for who I am. But, that’s on a larger scale. On a much smaller, personal level, I’m at peace, with who I am, and what I want from my life.

I’m in my early 40s. That number though finite, has infinite meanings. It is meaningless to a toddler, Old for a teenager, an “age of wisdom” for my subordinates, “just life” for my peers, “youth” for my elders, and yet we struggle everyday to understand this basic fact; age is nothing but a number.

Then why fight it, why worry about it? Often, people rely on the age-old cliché “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. At any given instance, we always have at the minimum, two choices. What you do with the lemons is your call.

Life gives us lemons because it doesn’t know any better. The truth is, you can’t drink lemonade for the rest of your life no matter how long or short it is.

Think about the following; the answers may set you free;
1. Why are you, you?
2. If not now, then, when?
3. What is the difference between “being alive” and “living” for you? And what’s keeping you from feeling that way?

Life is about living every moment of it, whichever way you choose it to be. How you look at it, will define how it is going to be. I don’t know if I have the answers yet, but I’m on the right path.

Facebook Abstinence

In Uncategorized on February 28, 2010 at 6:00 am

After a serious thought, I’ve decided to get off the Facebook bandwagon. Part of the reason is that i’ve come to realize, that most of the events that do happen on FB, are inconsequential to us. Yet, we get pulled into them, review them, read comments of random people we dont know…

I believe that if there is something that someone is doing that they want us to know, they will communicate that to us, if it’s important to them. Why should I be discussing the mundane issues of my life, and reciprocating the same online. It makes sense for teenagers, but for grown-ups it a little to much to keep up with…

There are so many back-stories happening in people’s lives, so much politics between folks, that FB is not a joy anymore and to be dragged into the middle of it, is not a welcome pleasure.

I guess i’ll know soon enough how it goes, the withdrawl symptoms, or lack thereof. Time will tell.

In the meantime, Adios.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

In Uncategorized on November 25, 2009 at 3:51 pm

Tomorrow is the day to express our thanks/gratitude for everything nice in our lives. As usual, I dont think we need to have a designated day to be thankful, so here it is a day early! I’m thankful for this wonderful life, full of family and friends who’ve always helped me move forward, I’m thankful for the wisdom to know the right path, and courage to walk that path. I’m thankful for the love and affection of our dear ones, esp. my wife, Nidhi, who really is the better half!

I’m thankful for my wonderful mother, who set the example for dedication to work and helping others. I’m thankful for my father, who has given me some of his brains…

On a lighter note, I’m thankful for Mr. Gates, whose vision has brought us all closer on the web and help us keep our distance from the weird people in real life. I’m thankful for Mr. Jobs, who showed us how to do it right, and provide moron with “Genius” t-shirts so they can feel superior over others, and feel better about themselves at the same time!

I’m thankful for Mr. Tata who bought the LandRover-Jaguar, So that now I’m a proud owner of an Indian owned vehicle in US!!

I’m thankful for the Nobel Committee to show us this year that a Noble Prize is something anyone can get these days, as long as you dress up nice, have a better vocabulary, and know how to promise more than you can deliver!

I’m thankful for White Chocolate Macademia Nut Cookies and Roasted Chicken Breast Sandwich at Subway, which is around at each corner and has sustained me for the past 10 years. What would I do without you, but then I can always go to Quiznos!

I’m thankful to Mr. Zuckerberg who created FB, so that a common man can have a virtual farm (instead of sweating to maintain a real one), have an aquarium, become a mob boss, to know the real meaning of their name, or to know that they’re name is the only one in the world, send their friends virtual gifts and not spend a pretty penny doing it!

I’m thankful to Mr. Dorsey’s idea of creating Twitter and limiting it to less than 140 characters. Now we can share even the minute details of our mundane life with everyone , and make it appealing for the other to believe that theirs is so much better than ours.

I’m thankful to Ms. Palin for “going rogue”, else we would have never known what is in store for all of us in america, if she became the president some day!

I’m thankful to ABC for airing “The Big Bang Theory” and giving recognition to all the geeks and nerds out there, and to feel accepted!.

I’m thankful to Mr. Abrams, for keeping “Lost” such a mystery, that even after five seasons, we don’t know what the heck’s going on.

I’m thankful for freedom we enjoy in this great country, how else can a boss who accepts it on air, that he repeatedly had sex with women who works for him, on his show, and still keeps his job, and open his show to an applauding crowd every night!! Never underestimate the power of “stupid” network executives. It would be so disgusting otherwise.

I’m thankful for all the pharmaceutical, alcoholic drinks and food commercials between TV shows, how else would we know of our choices on being a couch-potato, being over-weight, depressed and drunk!!

I’m just so thankful, and a whole lot of people to thank, but I have to get back to work.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Be Safe. Live long and prosper (as Mr. Spock says it!)

Movie: Miracle at St. Anna’s (2008)

Miracle At St. Anna's

Cast: Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonzo, Omar Benson Miller amongst others.

Plot:Set in 1944 Italy, the story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII (source IMDB)

Review: It’s a period film, based on true events that happened in the lives of four african-american soldiers in Italy during WWII. The movie starts with a bang, and a question that moves people to the edge of their seats, but then loses that grip as people recline back and sit through the entire movie. I believe that the director, Spike Lee lost track of what he was trying to accomplish with the amazing script! Over-reliance on foreign language (Italian mostly), made the movie look like a documentary!

Movie: I’m Reed Fish (2006)

I'm Reed Fish

Cast: Jay Baruchel (as Reed Fish), Alexis Bledel (as Kate Peterson), Schuyler Fisk (as Jill Cavanaugh), and others.

Plot: Reed Fish’s life turns into chaos when a high school crush returns to Mud Meadows on the eve of his marriage to the small town’s sweetheart (source: IMDB)

Review: Definitely, a very offbeat movie. The story keeps it interesting, all through the movie, with a twist in the end. Makes you think what you just saw, then rewind it, and watch over the last ten minutes again, for it all to make sense….very good acting by the lead actors, melodic soundtrack, and songs….

Hello world!

In Uncategorized on March 27, 2009 at 7:18 pm

Here I am. Jumped on the bandwagon, with my own Blog. What I intend to do with it, is not clear at this time, as there is a conglomeration of ideas, floating around my head. I will keep it interesting though!

Technology, Music, Gadgets, Photography….no, there are plenty of blogs dedicated to each, like Gizmodo, Engadget etc. But then, there is none that includes them all, does it. Eureka!

It’s decided then. I will blog about pretty much anything, I feel like. Whichever way you look at it, I can do as i please, this is my blog!!

Keep in touch, this is going to be a fun ride..

Movie: The Invisible (2007)

In Uncategorized on February 16, 2009 at 8:05 pm

Cast: Justin Chatwin (as Nicholas Powell), Margarita Levieva (as Annie), and Marcia Gay Harden (as Diane Powell)

Plot: Brutally attacked and left for dead teenager, finds out that is hung in a limbo. He’s invisible to everyone, except for a very troubled girl, who was also his attacker.
Review: Pretty ordinary in terms of the plot. The acting by the two leading actors is good, but does no justice to their talent. Too many subplots, put together poorly.
Recommendation: 1.5 of 5
